What is happening in 2012?

Many things are taking place in year 2012 on the environment point of view. Hopefully, not as drastic as the end of the world predicted by the Maya civilisation (I must undertake this expedition before that!!).

Next year, at the third "World Summit for Sustainable Development", the existing Kyoto Protocol for the Environment will expire. Fortunately, around the world the threat of climate change has become more obvious to us all, citizens and governments alike.

What is the Kyoto Protocol?, you may ask. Well:

"... it is an international agreement linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. [...] It was adopted in Kyoto, Japan, on the 11th of December 1997 and entered into force on the 16th of February 2005 [...] The major feature of the Kyoto Protocol is that it sets binding targets for 37 industrialized countries and the European community for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions...."
